We are licensed for both fire alarm and suppression (sprinkler & standpipe) in NYC & Nassau County. In NYC, in order to operate a sprinkler or standpipe valve or do testing you must be a licensed fire suppression contractor. Many alarm companies feel that alarm techs with an FDNY Certificate of Fitness (CoF) can perform testing. That is NOT correct (specified in FDNY's CoF study materials). With most of our subscribers we have (K&K) agreements (contracts) for both their suppression system and fire alarm so we perform all the duties for testing. When we do not have the alarm agreement in place we require the buildings fire alarm vendor operate the fire alarm system while we operate the valves, flow water, etc. This should not be an issue for the alarm vendor, it should coincide with the alarm testing required. While rare, we may operate test valve, flow water or change pressures until the alarm activates, close the valve, acknowledge and reset the panel. However sometimes "things happen", the alarm will not reset or there is another problem, it is no longer just press a button and all is good. If the alarm vendor is not there, then what? Jeff *********************************** Response *********************************** Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Activation of the sprinkler system can - and will - activate sprinkler monitoring devices. Probably good idea for the two trades to cooperate and coordinate testing and repairs. Note that fire protection and fire alarm are two different trades. One license is not enough; have both or decline to do whatever you're not licensed to do. K&K does offer standard Fire Alarm Agreement and a separate Fire Protection Agreement. Don't leave home without the proper contract for your subscriber. Thank you Jeff for sharing your expertise and experience. *********************************** STANDARD FORMS Alarm / Security / Fire and related Agreements. click here: www.alarmcontracts.com *************************** CONCIERGE LAWYER SERVICE PROGRAM FOR THE ALARM INDUSTRY - You can check out the program and sign up here: https://www.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/concierge or contact our Program Coordinator Stacy Spector, Esq at 516 747 6700 x 304. *********************** ALARM ARTICLES: You can always read our Articles on our website at ww.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/alarm-articles updated daily ******************** THE ALARM EXCHANGE - the alarm industries leading classified and business exchange - updated daily ************************* Wondering how much your alarm company is worth?
