Now I know there's a bunch of naysayers on this but the reality is if you're using Internet transmitters, VOIP lines etc. those are all subject to Internet and power outages which will basically kill your path of signaling ability. What about cellular/radio communicators? Well in our neck of the woods bad guys are using jammers to basically defeat these devices which renders them more or less useless! So to circle back, POTS lines do not rely on any premise power sources since they are typically powered from the phone co. central office and they cannot be RF jammed. Many will argue that POTS lines could be cut; that's a valid argument but with proper security protocols in terms of protecting access from attack we've found these, again, to be about the most reliable. It should be noted that the only other pathway that we are aware of that has a high level of reliability is closed network radio communications such as AES. I am not certain how they stand up to jammers but my suspicion is since they are close networks they probably tend to be more reliable in that respect. Just some thoughts but I'd love to hear from others on this. Thank you Ken, Dan Security One ************************* Response ************************* Interesting observations; I thought POTS lines were history; apparently not, and I didn’t think the extinction of POTS lines had much to do with reliability, because POTS was considered reliable. Radio was great alternative until jammers became readily available, though I don’t know how prevalent jammers have been utilized in real loss situations. I do concur that I have never heard any negative comments about AES; in fact very positive comments. The only issues I have encountered is when a company with AES accounts is selling the accounts; a buyer needs to be able to continue the AES network.
