Question:
Hi Jennifer,
How is that we keep having to apply for licenses state by state in this day and age? With new applications that do not transfer, and 4-6 month review processes?
Is there an end in sight to streamlining this process?
Thanks,
Dr. U
Answer:
So State by State License Compacts do exist for Physicians through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact - which is a unified licensing process approved at the state level by legislation (currently 43 states included). You can check if your state is on the list - here. New York State has a current bill introduced, but with a long way to go for approval.
For those reading who have multi-state practices, midlevel providers do have compact licensure initiatives as well -

For those reading who have multi-state practices, midlevel providers do have compact licensure initiatives as well -
- Nursing - The Nurse Licensure Compact currently includes 41 states, with 6 more pending NLC legislation (including NY).
- Physician Assistants - The Physician Assistant Compact currently includes 7 states, with 10 more states pending (including NY).
