ENCOR'S FIREFIGHTERS DEVICE - A FIRE ALARM COMPONENT?
*********************
Ken
There is a new product out from Encor called Firefighter.  It is a wireless device that we can install next to one of the correctly installed 120v smokes that will take the smoke sounder and transmit a trip to our panels.
I would think that the electrical smokes are the code compliant installation as per the NFPA standards, and all we are doing is taking a signal from them without touching the system in any way, shape or form to send a fire trip to our central stations.  The main disadvantage to this that I see is the quality of the electrical smokes that will now determine how and when our alarm system transmits from.
Any thoughts on should we or should we not use this product?

The real issue is to what extent can this device be considered a fire detection device.  It does not detect fire.  It detects audio emanating from a fire detection device, a smoke detector.  If you install this device you need to be certain to detail it's intended use and inherent limitations.  I'm not sure how the fire experts feel about this device or whether it should be used and under what circumstances.

3 DAY CANCELLATION QUESTION
*********************
KEN
I have a question about the 3-day cancellation period in Texas.  If a provider gives a customer a contract with a notice of cancellation paper that has been left blank by the company (no sales date, or date of last chance to cancel) is this contract valid or is it in violation of law?

RESPONSE

A consumer contract requiring the 3 day notice of cancellation may be canceled by the consumer until 3 days after the merchant complies with the statute.  The cancellation notice is required to be filled out by the merchant, and, if it's not, the merchant has not yet complied with the statute.
