Hosted by Ken Kirschenbaum ************************* customer complaining alarm co disappeared ************************* Ken I live in Texas. Say you paid in advance for a years worth of alarm monitoring and the monitoring company quietly went out of business prior to that year being up. They made no attempt to notify you that your system was no longer being monitored and made no attempt to give you a refund. The only reason you found out is because the alarm had an issue that should have triggered a call from the monitoring company but no call came. It’s as if they disappeared into thin air. Their phones appear to be disconnected, emails go unanswered, they’ve left no forwarding address or contact information. They don’t seem to have a problem not providing the agreed upon service. To me, that’s definitely a deceptive business practice, it borders on outright theft. What say you? ************************* Response ************************* For starters I'd say you're pretty stupid to think you're going to get free legal advice because you sent in an email unsoliticed off the web, and perhaps by design, emailed the leading alarm industry law firm in the country. But why did I decide to share this inquiry with the alarm industry [no private response was provided]? I get customer inquiries from time to time. In fact there is a negative review of my firm on line because I bascially hung up pm the caller stating that I represent the alarm industry, I don't sue the industry [typically]. This inquiry was curious because I wonder what happened to the alarm dealer [didn't bother to sell the accounts] and, a more interesting question, what happened to the monitoring company. Either the dealer, or reluctantly the central station, should have notified the customer of termiation of monitoring. It appears the dealer couldn't care less, but the central station is undoubtedly still operating. It's poor practice to terminate monitoring without notice. Though the K&K contracts do permit termination for customer default you should send a notice. The notice should preferrably be before you terminate the monitoring service, but certainly immediately after monitoring is canceled. The customer, no matter how foul a customer it is, should not find out about cancelation of monitoring after a real, or false, alarm. As far as using the "info" email address, if you're reading this email you have my direct email address. Use it. That way I won't confuse you with a clueless person scouring the internet for free legale [instead of a clueless alarm co owner or manager looking for free legal advice]. Talking about free legal advice, the kind that is OK, be sure to book up time at ISC for private and group meetings. I, together with Mitch Reitman, Rory Russell and Shawn Iverson, will be sharing our industry specific knowledge and experience at private and group meetings at ISC. Sign up with Kathleen [see info above]. Don't try to sign up sending email to "info".
