CRAZY LICENSE ENFORCEMENT
****************************
Ken
I had a situation where someone didn't have an alarm license and decided to use my unique ID.  Division of Licensing Services had him convicted and he was fined $2000, which they are letting him pay in 100 payments.  A month later they let him get his own license.
I spent $1000s for lawyers to prove that it was not me.  How is it possible?  Is the law same for everybody?

And whos says we don't have license enforcement?  The laws are the same for everyone, though application, enforcement and outcome are not the same.  Selective enforcement is acceptable.

ARKANSAS PROPOSED LAW AFFECTS ALARM INDUSTRY
*****************************
Ken
The Arkansas Security Alarm Association and our members have been fighting a bill in our State Senate that will abolish our licensing board, handing over our industries to a single person at the State Police.
I would appreciate you adding this information to your email newsletter.  You may contact me with any questions you may have.
Thank you,

Subject: Senate Bill 164
Senate Bill 164, which abolishes the Arkansas Board of Private Investigators and Private Security Agencies, passed through the Judiciary Committee yesterday.   The Sponsor of the bill is the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
I have emailed the Sponsor, two co-sponsors, and the entire Judiciary Committee asking them to kill the bill.  Senator Hutchinson has offered to meet with me, but hasn’t offered a date or time.
It appears that it is on today’s schedule for the general assembly, http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assembly/2015/2015R/Lists/Calendar/Attachments/888/R189.pdf
I will continue to work on the sponsor, co-sponsors, and my local Senator.  Please help in any way possible.

Someone in Arkansas legistature has it in for the alarm industry there.  Few years ago they passed a law prohibiting renewal contracts for the alarm industry - only the alarm industry.  They had to fix it fast since they apparently figured out that all alarm service would abruptly stop without automatic renewal.  You don't see too many consumer type laws aimed solely at the alarm industry.  Good luck with your fight and keep us posted.

ALARM.COM RIDER
*********************************
Ken
I have your All in One forms.  I will be using alarm.com with most of my customers. I have instructions from them about how to add one line to my contract in order to include their terms. Is there anything wrong with me doing that myself?  What about if my phone number or address changes...can I make those types of changes myself?

RESPONSE

Yes you can make changes yourself.  Good luck with that.  There is no way I can comment on any change you make without seeing it.  One word in a contract can cause a problem.  So to be prudent I suggest you let us handle the legal, you handle the security.  For Alarm.com to tell you to make changes to the contract or try to comply with its complicated requirements is irresponsible on its part.  The alarm.com Terms are for the protection of alarm.com, not you.  Those terms are not consistent with the protective provisions that I believe are important to dealers and their subcontractors and therefore we add those terms as a stand alone rider.  I am sure alarm.com provides a great service to the alarm industry.  It too should stick to security services and leave legal stuff to attorneys representing dealers, central stations and others, but not alarm.com.
Use the rider we provide along with the residential or commercial All in One Agreements.  It's more than one line.
