Comment on the E&O insurance market from article on June 27, 2020

Ken,
The insurance market, across the board, is shifting rapidly; faster than I have seen in 20 years.  Every natural disaster that has occurred has not had near the impact COVID has.  You will continue to see markets restrict their capacities; cease writing certain classes or lines of business and increase rates.
Security America is unique because it was developed by alarm industry professionals.  We have built ourselves on a first-hand knowledge base that spreads through the entire program – underwriting, contract review, claims handling, etc.  We risk manage the program through streamlined underwriting focused on processes at the alarm company level, including a heavy focus on contractual protections.  In addition, the expertise that is brought to the table for claims handling allows for controlling of costs that is not typical of other insurance markets.
If you have a quote from my team and you are concerned about coverage differences – send us your current policy, we are happy to do a free policy comparison.  If you are working with an agent, they should be willing to help you with this as well.  A good agent shouldn’t focus in solely on the price.  It is their job to inform you about coverage differences.
Lastly, two points of clarification – 1. We are not a Risk Retention Group; we are a Risk Purchasing Group.  (the difference is that we are 100% insured by a carrier (Lloyds) and that the Group takes no financial burden) and 2.  We have an additional excess program with another market that now allows us to write higher limits above our 5M excess, so if your limits exceed, 5M, we can still help.
 Best Regards,
Crystal Jacobs, RPLU, Program Manager

The alarm industry ownership and involvement with Security America makes all the difference.  None of the other insurance carriers, no matter how long they have had an “alarm program” can compete with the talent and experience that is available to Security America, certainly not when it comes to handling claims.  And while claims may be the back end of the program [the cart not the horse] because when searching for a policy is all-about the underwriting and it’s the underwriters who will determine the pricing and if the policy should be renewed and at what price.  But don’t kid yourself, you have a bad claims record and the underwriters won’t be willing to write your policy.  Even worse, one carrier messes up your claim or claims and not only does that carrier drop you or out-price your policy, but no other carrier is willing to touch you.  Good luck convincing the other carriers that it was your carrier who messed up, not you.
You should be supporting Security America. Be sure to give Security America the opportunity to quote your coverage.

Central station 2020 webinars
************************
Our central station's webinars begin soon.  Register now.

Central stations will have the opportunity to tell you what services they offer, to what extent the services are unique or specialized and, with some pressing, what you can expect to pay.  The webinars are starting July 13 and the central stations are lining up to participate.
The webinars offer an excellent opportunity to interact with your central station, scope out another central station, and consider whether you want to move accounts or open new accounts with a particular central station.  Am I encouraging central station hopping?  No, but I am encouraging you to use central stations listed on The Alarm Exchange.  Why, for you, not me.  You get the added protection of knowing that the listed central stations are expected to deal with dealer issues and cooperate with a goal of resolving disputes. Those that fail to co-operate risk having their post removed from The Alarm Exchange.  That may not sound like a big deal to you, but check out The Alarm Exchange central station category.  Every major reputable central station is participating.  If your central station isn’t, move to one that is.  If you don’t, don’t bother complaining to me about problems you have with the central station; I have no relationship with that central station and won’t be able to make a call to resolve your issue.
So make some time to attend the webinars, by video or on your phone.  They will all be recorded and you will be able to view or hear them by visiting the K&K website and navigating to the alarm webinars:  https://www.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/alarm-webinars
