It may not be, but may be an electrical service issue. The contractor has a direct door to them. Additionally there must be other problems in the building being affected by this issue as well and not just the fire alarm system. One more possible note. If there is a fluctuation in the voltage it may be due to an improper connection to the electrical service that was not done properly with a lug or a bad connection on the hot side or neutral that would cause this. SG ********************** Response ********************** The issue in the July 2, 2022 article was perceived problem with the electrical supply. Who deals with this problem is likely different depending on the jurisdiction. The alarm in question is in NYC; we know that because Jeff mentions Con Ed; that’s who supplies electric in NYC. What fire alarm dealers in other parts of the country, and there are other parts of the country, thankfully, may not realize is that alarm dealers, licensed fire alarm dealers, are not permitted to hook the fire alarm into the electrical panel by edict of the NY Fire Department. In fact, the NYFD doesn’t want licensed fire alarm companies installing fire alarm systems [or inspecting or repairing them unless issued certificate of fitness by the NYFD]. An electrician has to do the electrical connection. So in Jeff’s scenario the best course of action is likely telling the owner that he has to contact the electrician who should call in Con ED. In other parts of the country alarm dealers may be permitted to install and hook up the fire alarm, in which case they could call the electric company to check the supply source. Anyway, don’t take my advice on this; I’m not a fire alarm expert technician. What I can tell you with confidence is that you should be using the Fire All in One for your commercial fire alarm installation and after-install services. ******************* To order up to date Standard Form Alarm / Security / Fire and related Agreements click here: www.alarmcontracts.com *************************** CONCIERGE LAWYER SERVICE PROGRAM FOR THE ALARM INDUSTRY - You can check out the program and sign up here: https://www.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/concierge or contact our Program Coordinator Stacy Spector, Esq at 516 747 6700 x 304. *********************** ALARM ARTICLES: You can always read our Articles on our website at ww.kirschenbaumesq.com/page/alarm-articles updated daily ******************** THE ALARM EXCHANGE - the alarm industries leading classified and business exchange - updated daily ************************* Wondering how much your alarm company is worth?
