More on GA false alarm fines from article on March 20, 2021

Ken:  More about:  “GA moving to state law re false alarms” from March 20, 2021.
Layman’s opinion: Some of us believe alarm industry “leadership” that are supporting this proposed state law, are leading the industry and RMR market value toward collapse. The current pandemic, social and political unrest, combined with many years of documentation and trends toward reduction of public resources used for private purposes, suggests it could be time to repurpose the industry. The Georgia proposed legislation could have many holes and escape clauses to make it meaningless, like similar legislation in California last year.  However, this attempt for legislation provides a powerful tool for self-serving associations, like SIAC, to raise lots of funds from groups like third-party monitoring firms, and investor groups that have much to lose.

I am not sure I am following your train of thought.  How does a state law that prohibits local municipalities from fining alarm companies lead the alarm industry and RMR market to collapse?  You suggest it’s time to “repurpose” the alarm industry.  To what?  I am not familiar with the California law you refer to; perhaps you can send it for review and discussion.  As to Georgia, there is no law yet, so we don’t have to wonder if there will be holes in it.  It seems like a fairly simple issue to address so the elected officials in GA should be able to figure it out.
As for associations, good or bad and no matter what flaws they might have, they are all we have to present industry issues in an organized and coherent manner.
