Ken,
If the security system is set up to report signals by cellular only, the cellular signal has been jammed, and the JamAlert is activated.  How is the security system then expected to relay this JamAlert zone activation if the cellular has been jammed?  Curious minds would like to know.
Jason

another question

Ken
Is the language in the new agreement specific to certain frequencies or technologies, or is it written more broadly?
I am hearing more about Wi-Fi jamming capabilities and emerging technologies designed to detect this activity.  Would the current language also cover devices that detect interference or jamming across other frequencies, including Wi-Fi?
Kind regards, Please keep my inquiry
anonymous

This relatively new device and service needs discussion and it is here to stay.  With respect to Jason’s question my understanding is that the device is designed to detect jamming efforts and, before those efforts prevent transmission, the device triggers notification to the central station of the jamming attempts.  Whether the central station reports that or how it handles that new jamming effort report, I don’t know.  I know that Affiliated and DGA monitor such signals and I am sure they have developed protocol for handling those signals.  No doubt other central stations do as well and they are all welcome to chime in with their information and advice.
Regarding anonymous’ inquiry about wi-fi, I have to leave that to the experts; I don’t know.  I take the question to inquire whether the device detects attempts to compromise Internet communication.  Internet communication connection could be monitored by line security and frequent test signals.  Perhaps cellular communication doesn’t work that way.  I’ll leave that to the experts too.  The contract modification adding cell jamming detection is broad enough to cover the current technology and service, and soon as it’s not we will be updating the contracts.
I considered whether the cell jamming device provision needed to be in the security contracts and the fire alarm contracts too.  K&K research concluded that it belongs in the fire alarm contracts too, and that raises another very important question, which I will opine on.
Does the cell jamming device need to be in the fire alarm filed plans and specification and approved by the AHJ as part of the fire alarm?  Can the cell jamming device be added to an existing fire alarm, and if so, without new plans, permit and approval?
Fire alarm design, especially commercial fire alarms, are closely governed by the AHJ, usually the municipal building department and the fire department. the Fire Marshal is usually the lead AHJ.  Scrutiny, oversight and enforcement varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but the actual requirements for the system as relatively constant and uniform.  In most states the alarm company can sign off on the plans and specs, and in other states the plans and specs have to be signed and filed by an architect or engineer.  Those plans and specs will need to identify every component of the fire alarm, from wires to, well, everything attached to the system.  That, in our opinion, includes the cell jamming detection device, even though it may be installed after the panel [and don’t hold me to that].
This analysis also means the cell jamming detection device cannot be added to the approved fire alarm without approval from the AHJ; that may very well require the entire approval process.
The cell jamming device is separate equipment for which you will certainly charge.  The central station may impose an additional charge for the monitoring, but even if it doesn’t the dealer can charge for the service.  The Kirschenbaum Contracts™ are designed for the additional RMR charge.  How much?  That’s up to you.  All I know is that there isn’t an additional charge for the provision in the contracts, so that’s something !!
