comment on how to handle several challenges to residential contract from article on June 18,  2026

Ken,
Just a quick comment on “Name Withhold” comment on customer changes on a residential contract in your June 18th 2026 article. The customer is asking for the elimination of the auto-renewal clause in the Agreement and you correctly advised that they track this and terminate services if the Agreement isn’t renewed by the customer.
I would suggest that any company that makes changes to its Monitoring Agreements (and that is probably every company) maintain an Abstract of special rules for these customers.  It is very easy to forget about these special conditions and fail to take appropriate action.  Special rules could be that the Agreement terminates on a specific date, or could be operational items such as “call 3 RPs prior to dispatching.”  In the case of an agreement not renewing I would put several notes in the CRM at 90,60, and 30 days prior to the “expiration” so that a new agreement can be signed or the service terminated.

Changes are made to the Alarm Agreement regularly at the request, or insistence, of the Subscriber.  The key is knowing what terms can be modified and more importantly, what combination of terms can be modified.  Keep in mind that the Kirschenbaum Contracts
TM have multiple redundant provisions to protect you.  They work independently and in combination with other provisions.  This is perhaps one of the most essential aspects of the Concierge Program, the free half hour each month for contract review and negotiation. While some companies have a policy of not modifying their Standard Form Agreements, that hard and fast rule is tough for most companies.  There is no reason that modifications can't be made, though each negotiation needs to be viewed as unique depending on many circumstances, including but not limited to, type of alarm, type of customer, type of service, importance of particular customer, and maybe most of all, your tolerance for risk.  Joining the Concierge Program will reduce your risk.
