Not the same situation however years ago a sporting goods store was robbed and a gun was taken that was ultimately used in a killing dubbed the Pizza delivery murders in Sussex County New Jersey.
The niece of the owner of the sporting goods store was involved in the theft not the shooting. The niece knew the alarm code enter the proper code and disarmed the system.     The alarm was not set up with supervised opening and closing reports nor was it a requirement by the insurance underwriter additionally supervised openings and closings was offered to the owner however the owner declined therefore nothing was transmitted to the central station upon disarming. One of the accomplices stole a gun and ammunition. When they niece exited the store she rearmed and intentionally activated the alarm. Signals were transmitted to the central station we received correctly and the police were dispatched. Weeks later one of the accomplices uses the stolen gun in a double murder killing the pizza shop owner and his delivery person. The alarm company had a solid agreement in place along with a document executed by the owner declining supervised openings and closings.
At the end of the day the family members of the deceased sued the alarm company. The insurance company representing the alarm company negotiated settlement and paid out an undisclosed amount.
In my opinion the insurance company figured the case would be drawn out costing them in attorney fees and determined it was monetarily advantageous to settle.

Sounds like it was irresponsible for the alarm company's insurance carrier to pay anything towards the claim. Paying claims like this encourages more lawsuits.

Couple going through a divorce. I have a K & K contract signed with him only and he is the one who has been paying the monthly monitoring. The wife just called the office and said he has been arrested for domestic violence and that he has been locked out of the house via court order. She wants me to help her change the alarm code in order to help keep him out of the house.
Am I allowed to assist her even though my contract is with him? What if she were to find the instruction manual and do it herself?
Thank You,
David

I think the best course of action is to sign a new alarm contract with the wife; she will become your new customer. Then don't accept payment from the husband. You can email or write him that his contract has been terminated. If he wants to know why you can tell him he never named you as an additional insured on his homeowner's policy. If he did, then send him the court order removing him from the house. My guess is you won't hear from him.
