Neil Ackerman, Esq.

NEIL ACKERMAN, Esq. is full time “of counsel” at Kirschenbaum & Kirschenbaum, P.C. He focuses on commercial and consumer Bankruptcy law, debt restructuring and workouts, and Bankruptcy litigation. Neil has successfully represented numerous businesses including public corporations, and individuals, as well as creditors' committees, investors' committees, and bondholders' committees in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy cases; and Bankruptcy trustees in numerous Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy cases. He has also represented thousands of individuals & married couples as debtors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 Bankruptcy cases; numerous defendants in preference & fraudulent conveyance actions, and other Bankruptcy adversary proceedings; and banks, insurance premium finance companies and other secured and unsecured creditors, and landlords, in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 Bankruptcy cases. Additionally, he has successfully represented many businesses and individuals, as well as Banks & other secured creditors, & landlords, in pre-bankruptcy & outside-of bankruptcy debt workouts.
Neil was the Law Clerk for the Hon. Cecelia Goetz, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York in 1981-1982. He was also a Bankruptcy trustee in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of NY for more than 20 years; and he was the chairperson of the Bankruptcy Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association between July 2019-June 2021.
Neil was the editor of "Bankruptcy for Bankers" of the Banking Law Journal between 1999-2000; authored 14 articles that were published in the NY Law Journal, the Banking Law Journal, the American University Law Review and the Long Island Business News; and frequently lectured at legal seminars on Bankruptcy issues to attorneys.
Prior to joining Kirschenbaum & Kirschenbaum, P.C., Neil headed Bankruptcy Departments at various well known law firms.
Neil received his J.D. degree from American University Law School, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and political science from State University of New York at Binghamton.
