Ken,
      We use PSI Background https://ww2.psibackgroundcheck.com/
They do background checks, social media searches and other media outlet searches among other authorized checks.
We don't have any affiliation with them and hope it helps other readers.

Your remarks on hiring are certainly a generational giveaway.  It is amazing the hoops we must jump through and how deep we have tolerated government interference in our businesses.  Perhaps it’s time WE started picking away at the edges of this madness.
Next time, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we must deal with each of the new 101 gender-identities on the job application form.
            Hope you are well

Such a timely article!! Thank you for sharing your comments and all you do to inform leaders and decision makers in our industry.
We are seeking new team members in several areas and it has been difficult to find folks willing to work let alone folks who are qualified or experienced in the low-voltage industry. Every leader I talk to says the same thing.
Our company is fortunate to be in a growth mode and we are seeking to hire a Director of Operations / GM for our company. (we have about ~30 folks on staff today). I get emails from headhunters all the time and we have explored a few offers but generally find them to be unreliable.  Do you have any recommendations on hiring for this kind of role?

The Alarm Exchange has a Help Wanted category where alarm companies can post job offerings.  The post is free for alarm companies.  I know that companies have had success finding good help.
There is also a category for Position Wanted; you may want to check that too.
My office does background checks for our clients [which I didn’t know when I wrote the Oct 3 article].  The report includes criminal investigation, financial information, liens and judgments.  The report does not include drug testing, which needs to be done by the prospective employee, though drug convictions would show up.  We charge $50 for the report and you can find out about it by contacting Amy LaVeglia at ALaVeglia@kirschenbaumesq.com or 516 747 6700 x 313.
When the prospective employee fills out application get consent for the background investigation and the drug testing.
Security companies need to be careful who they hire.  In some states the licensing authority will do a background check once the company notifies the AHJ that the employee has been hired or being considered.  In New York, for example, the AHJ will notify the company within days if an employee must be discharged because of the background check.
What you can or can’t ask during an interview and discriminatory practices that are illegal are very precise and penalties can be severe.  If you don’t have Human Resource assistance, in-house or contracted, you better “read up on it” or engage professionals to assist.  K&K Employment Department may be able to help and you can contact Jennifer Kirschenbaum,Esq at 516 747 6700 x 302 or Jennifer@Kirschenbaumesq.com
