Cancellation of monitoring accounts by radio vendor from Feb 20, 2014 article

Ken

In response to Alarmnet Canceling the Central Station Account.

“Honeywell's approach to AlarmNet is old-school like in the bad old days they think by refusing dealers the right to choose their own central station and pay their own bills they are somehow helping central stations keep their daily base plus they are allowing the central stations to upcharge and make money off AlarmNet fees.  No wonder communications paths but the dealer can control directly such as uplink are gaining more favor with independent dealers.  Long-term Honeywell will have to wake up and understand that dealers are smart and understand that just as dealers need control over their phone numbers they do over all the communication pass and further they need control over their pricing. “

As I am presently dealing with large 2G radio problem with  Honeywell  I would rather not have my name displayed.

    Thanks,

So not much better than Alarm.com.   Anyone have a good experience?

how do you get heard on this forum - and who's listening?

Ken,

I have to ask a question.  How do you decide what to post or reprint in your emails?  Is there any screening of information or who is sending?

I find the information that your provide very helpful but am occasionally disappointed when I see that you are posting from the same people over and over as well as ones that are blatant advertisements for someones business or association.  Your business I understand as you are the sender.  Others I don't, it concerns me that it appears you are endorsing those people or associations by giving them the platform to speak or write as it is on an email that is coming from you.  By doing so you may be giving credit or validity to those who are not worthy of that credit or validity.  Do you screen them, check them out in any way or just post them out?

    Thanks!

I do screen out some emails and I dont circulate them for various reasons [including hostility].  I try and circulate whatever comes in unless it is clearly personal or I can tell it's ill willed or potentially defamatory.  It's not easy sending something out 6 days a week so I appreciate everything I receive.  And yes it's often the same people - I wish others would participate.

Because I want to encourage participation I usually don't mind some promotional stuff, especially if I don't object to the vendor or person.  Sometimes I will "endorse" someone, but circulating a post doesn't mean an endorsement.

The Alarm Exchange is closer to an endorsement, though I've allowed almost anyone to come on and it's now going to be a process of elimination - took a central off recently.

So - please contribute - and I don't mind endorsing COPS.

BTY, if you read it here  - so are thousands of other alarm company owners, every day.
