Question:

Jennifer,

I perform background checks on employees.  Any other recommendations to make sure I am getting good people?

Thanks, Dr. L

Answer:

Background checks are definitely important, but not always dispositive.  Always confirm references.  Also, a MUST! - check the Exclusion list.  OIG maintains a list of excluded providers from the federal payment system.

In hiring, trust your instincts.  And, if you are like many of my clients and we can bet your instincts aren't great based on your track record (insert name here ___________), maybe have a few other people on site meet the prospective hire as well...
