what buyers and sellers focus on / signs for video June 7, 2018
********************** what buyers and sellers focus on ********************** Ken
Hope your readers fully appreciate the guidance you provided in your May 29, 2018 article “What buyers want to know before buying accounts”. Lots of good stuff for buyers and sellers. If you don’t object, I will add a new topic to the list; and beware the list will change with technology and political evolution.
Sellers focus on current value, buyers focus on future value. … big difference! All about attrition and legacy liability. Current generation buyers may want to know your customer expectations for alarm response, and who pays false alarm fines/fees; aka the “public/private partnership”. Market value can drop with slow or no response to calls for help from licensed monitoring sources. Sellers can do pre-planning that can add value . Have a file for each police jurisdiction wherein you have monitored customers and include a current alarm ordinance or policy, plus copy of relevant changes. Maybe begin the transition to a business model without police response for deterrent customers. We know this is a major change from the norm. Another reason to use currentK&K contracts. Lee Jones Support Services Group ******************** signs for video from May 26, 2018 article **************** Ken Although I read all your emails, I've never responded until today. With respect to your comments regarding the posting of signage where video recording is taking place, the laws in Canada clearly state that signs must be posted at the entrance to any location where video is being recorded. I would also say that almost no installing companies actually post any signage. Please refer to: https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/privacy-topics/surveillance-and-monitoring/gl_vs_080306/ Thanks, Michael Bloom mbloom@alertsecurity.ca ****************** Response ****************** I checked the link you provided, quickly, I admit, and didn't find any requirement for posting signs if there is video. If you can provide the specific statute that requires a sign, please let us know. And that goes for more than Canada - anyone know of sign requirement in the US? I am not talking about someone's opinion that signs are a good idea, or even required, unless a statute is stated.
