Question:

Jennifer,

I'm taking steps to start 2020 off right - I am signing up for PR help since many of my patients already originate from the internet.  I will send my agreement for review when it comes in, but any basic tips for a PR company contract you can share in advance?

Thank you in advance.

Dr. P

Answer:

Glad to hear you are sending for review.  You are contracting to give this company control over your name, reputation and, likely, face, etc.  You need to preserve control over where you are marketed and how.  So, first tip is for you to require your consent in each instance for any new or renewal campaign and you to canvas together for next opportunities.  Be sure you are not paying on renewals.  Be also sure you can terminate on notice and without an unreasonable continuing obligation to pay.   As a final tip, be aware if you are granting exclusivity to one company - and perhaps, reconsider...

Happy to review on receipt, and negotiate if requested.   Always easier to negotiate on the way in than on the way out....
