Question: Software management inquiry
************************
Ken –
As a small dealer we use QuickBooks. Each month we receive a bill (invoice) from our central station for our subs and those transactions are manually keyed into QB by my office manager. Entering these transactions can be a very time consuming task.
Just curious to know if anyone out there has heard of a tool that would create a file that can be imported.
Would love to hear some ideas.
Thanks.
JR

Question:  audio and video in your own home
***************************
Ken
I have a customer that has a CCTV System in his home.  He wants to add a few cameras and upgrade cameras from analog to IP.
At the same time, he is also interested in recording the audio in his children’s bedrooms and the playroom, where there are cameras present. Is there any issue with using the built in microphone in the new IP cameras we are proposing for these locations?
    Please advise.
Thanks,
Jeff

If you are in a "one party" state, which you are, then only one party to the conversation need give consent.  In your home you give the consent and you can give it for your children.  You could not record a private conversation [and use it for any purpose] between two other people in your house, such as a nanny and her friend, neither of whom knew about the recording device.  You can view and record video as long as its not in a place where privacy is expected.

follow up on soliciting accounts from June 5, 2014 article

Ken,
I think you could be wrong on your tortious interference answer.  Sounds like the company knew going in the customer had 3 years left on his contract and went ahead anyway.  The fact that the original company didn't physically provide the monitoring doesn't mean it wasn't responsible for monitoring. (Probably using a third party monitoring company).  If I was the one losing the account, based on the information given I would definitely sue.

Question is, when taking over an account, does the take over company have any exposure simply because it knows the subscriber has an existing contract for the same services [let's call it monitoring].  I think Bob's answer would be yes.  My answer would be no, at least not without a lot more information, which would include who initiated the contact, sub or take over co?  Did take over co make any misrepresentations to induce the switch over?  There are other questions.  I think the issue is clearly if I change the facts to be - sub calls you in, says it has an alarm co that it doesn't like and even though it has a contract it wants to sign with you immediately.  I don't see liability in that case.  Even if you are called in by the sub you could be exposed if you use derogatory remarks to seal your deal.  You can't suggest that the other alarm co is incompetent, owned by a criminal, out of business, etc [unless true of course].
