It is always nice when clients take your advice seriously and look to comply with government imposed requirements!  One such client has conducted his own due diligence so that he may comply with the encryption requirement for all emails to patients and has generously authorized me to share his findings, see below -

Hi Jennifer,

I finally finished my research into secure email after your suggestion of Citrix. After speaking with about six companies, I found for my volume and not needing full practice management software, that Emailpros.com offers what I need at a very reasonable fee. It allows one to purchase different numbers of emails, and you can send PHI securely to someone who is not part of their system. In fact I’ll send a test to you, in case you’re interested in seeing how it works.  In order to send back and forth then the recipient should enlist with emailpros.com if there is much communication through the months. On the other hand, I can create an email on the system for a colleague and then they don’t have to register.

Please feel free to share with the listserv.

ACA Employee Notice Deadline TODAY!!!

Thank you to Bryan Koshers, Healthcare CPA, for sending in the below and providing the DOL link.

Jennifer,

I know many of your clients have read about the new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act but what they don’t realize is that there is a requirement due October 1, 2013.  This requirement is that employer’s inform their employee’s about the existence of the State health insurance exchanges.  Without proper notification penalties could exist.  All one would need to do would be to visit the U.S. Department of Labor website at www.dol.gov/ebsa then go down to the section regarding “people are asking about” then to “notice to employee of coverage options” then print the appropriate forms for distribution.

I hope this information helps your clientele remain compliant.  If any questions exist, please feel free to reach me, Bryan Koshers, CPA at 516-481-1515 or Bryan@KoshersCo.com.
