Right contract for fire alarm services

Ken
I see that you offer a fire alarm monitoring contract as one of your standard forms, but you recommend the Fire All in One instead of the Fire Alarm Monitoring contract.  Why?

Clients looking for a monitoring only contract are usually shortsighted; they haven’t really thought about the bigger picture when considering their contract needs.  Fire is a good example.  Ask yourself if fire alarm monitoring is all that you do.  If the answer is, yes, then the Fire Alarm Monitoring contract is the right contract.  But, if you do something other than just monitoring, then you will need something more than the monitoring only contract; the right contract would be the Fire All in One.
Most, if not all, alarm companies doing fire alarm monitoring do more than monitoring.  And, let’s clear up what I mean by “doing fire alarm monitoring”.  That means you contract to perform the monitoring and then subcontract the actually monitoring service to a professional Monitoring Center; you are not actually doing the monitoring, but you did contract for it and you are the one invoicing the subscriber.
So what other fire alarm services are you likely doing?  How about repair service?  Inspections?  Installation?  All of these services are covered by the Fire All in One.  Even if you don’t do some of the above services the Fire All in One should be used.  If you don’t do installation for example, then those provisions in the contract dealing with installation simply won’t apply; no need to strike or delete them; same for other services; maybe you don’t do inspection or repairs; just leave those provisions in the contract and they won’t be applicable to your deal.
A better idea is to ask why you aren’t doing all of the services in the Fire All in One.  You should be unless there’s a very good reason you can’t contract for the service and then subcontract out whatever you need to, such as the monitoring.
This same analysis applies for the Commercial All in One.  All the services you should be performing and likely can perform are addressed.  Striking or deleting provisions are not necessary; they just won’t apply to the deal.
