Ken

Do you have any forms to send to customers when they discontinue their monitoring?  My concern is that they notify their insurance company of their discontinued monitoring.  We follow up with a letter telling them to notify their company, but wonder if you have something that would make them more aware of their consequences.  We do use your monitoring contract.

Thank you.

Ken:

Do you have a official "CANCEL" services document?

    Example:

Client has commercial Fire system and is in default due to not paying monitoring and/or repair services.

Do we need to list the Reason for cancel?

Is there a reason to extend additional services for a period of time after notice?

Do we have rights without additional exposure to notice local AHJ?

In The past we have sent notice via certifide mail (sometimes rejected) with final bill and we extended them 39 additional days of service.

I do not have a form and it's not likely that any form would be useful.  You can, but typically are not required, to send notice of discontinuance of service.  I suggest that if you send notice that it be unconditional and give a precise time when the service will terminate.  In other words, you don't want to write that service will terminate unless you hear from the subscriber.  That is not unconditional termination notice.

Don't waste your money or time on certified mail unless your contract [and it's not mine] calls for that form of notice.

Hi Ken,

I'm a little concerned with your answer.  You failed to mention that this might be a system that was installed because it is required by code.  If you remove the system you would have to notify the AHJ and they could require a whole new system that meets up to date codes.  This could require blueprints, a building permit and additional devices.  If he is unable to access the panel to reprogram the dialer, perhaps he could just replace the alarm panel as a repair action and not open a can of worms.

You are correct.  If you installed the system [usually commercial fire] and had to get permits, inspections and approval, you may be required by statute to notify the AHJ that your service is terminating.
