Still room for you at Electronic Security Technology Summit October 22 2014
********************
Last chance to in the Electronic Security Technology Summit at Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs in October 2014 [22-24th].  All expenses are paid, including transportation, meals, entertainment, seminars and meetings with selected vendors that are important to your alarm business?
Don't miss out this year.  Last year's summit was well worth your time.  Check it out at www.aspsummits.com/
This is the second year that Advisory Summit Providers is sponsoring its Electronic Security Technology Summit.  I attended last year along with many alarm business owners and those who supply or service the alarm industry, and it was a valuable and memorable event.  Plan on making this meeting.  There are a few spots for attendees left and the selection process is going on right now and will be completed quickly.
Here's how it works.  Unlike other alarm conventions and meetings all of your expenses to attend are paid for.  You select the vendors you'd like to meet with to enhance your business and the meetings are arranged and scheduled.  You'll also be able to attend the seminars and speeches, and all of the social events.  Often you are invited with another from your company or your spouse, and they also come for free.  You are welcome to bring others - check with ASP to see how many free spots your company can get.
Here is how this all works.  Vendors sponsor the event contributing enough money to fund the participants expenses.  You are not going to be compelled to attend a wasteful meeting, but will be able to meet with those vendors you have identified as someone you'd like to meet with.  Very often you might find that a vendor you have wanted to meet but couldn't make the arrangements will be there ready for your meeting.  And vendors, here's an easy way to get to meet with the alarm company owners you've been trying to get a meeting with.
Contact David Pagano at 585 225 1010 or david.pagano@aspsummits.com and be sure to mention today's article so he knows you are a serious player in the alarm industry.
Last year's event was well worth while for both vendors and attendees.  You can get involved at different levels but whatever your participation it will be worth it.  This event is very professionally organized and run, and leaves plenty of time for leisure.  Unlike last years business setting this year will be at the Broadmoor Hotel where you will have all sports and other facilities right on the grounds. On the business side you will have a captive audience in both business meetings and at social settings to promote or acquire products and services.  This won't be some rushed hello at one of hundreds of booths or while your walking around a crowded - or not so crowded - exhibit room.  No sure if you'll get enough out of the trip?  Call David and discuss it.     Response to Tony Gallo from June 28 2014 article
Tyco splitting up the operating divisions has zero to do with Dennis Kozlowski, he was convicted almost 10 years ago and the Tyco stock had more than recouped its losses associated to him in 2003.
Yes, Microsoft bought a stake in Apple, not to have a piece of its’ competitor but the opposite, to keep it alive to avoid government regulation issues with the death of Apple leaving it as the sole provider of a computer OS.  Further, it divested that investment in 2003.
For the independent dealers to get a 5% stake of the outstanding shares of ADT at $35.00 per share would cost over 300 million dollars.  Assuming there are 2000 independent dealers, each dealer would have to purchase $152,000.00 worth of stock.  That would still not get you much of a voice unless this was invested under 1 entity otherwise the group is just 2000 minor shareholders whom no one would listen.
The vast majority of security companies are no more than jobs with all the issues and liabilities of owning a business.  As a business owner I believe one should be focused on how to separate oneself in the market and operate the business as a business not a job.  Focus on what your customer’s desires and needs are to grow.  Try looking forward not back.  I can guarantee you ADT is not looking at what you are doing but what they can do for their customer to continue to gain market share.
Think less about ADT, think more about creating your market advantage.
My Opine.

John, I agree that alarm owners need to look forward and concentrate on growth.  Unless your alarm business is your hobby, instead of your career, business, livelihood - you need to focus, be professional, and use the proper tools to grow.  One of those tools are proper contracts.  Get the Standard Form Contracts and structure your business for RMR growth.
Regarding your statement about ADT, did you mean to say ADT is thinking about what it "can do for their customer" or did you mean to say ADT looks to grow focusing on what it can do for "your customer".
    Only kidding.

Looking for qualifier in Illinois
***********************
Ken,
We recently purchased the standard form contract and have thus been added to your email list which I love. Thank you for that. I have a question that perhaps you could answer.
A recent email you sent out was about using someone's license. My partner and I are in the process of launching our business in Wisconsin,  and would like to do business in Illinois, however though we both have been in the industry for over 4 years, we do not have the required 4 years of management experience that the state asks in order to issue a license.  We each have about 3.  Does this mean we would have to find someone and use their license for our business?
Is there another solution? If we would have to use someone else's license, do you perhaps have someone you could refer us to?
    Thank you,
W

We would have to research if there is any reciprocity, which I doubt, or
way to waive in, which I also doubt.  Otherwise you can post ad on The Alarm Exchange and see if you can find someone who you will have to pay.  I would do the
agreement you will need with this person.  You can also check out The Alarm Exchange - licensed qualifiers looking to work with or for your company are posted there
