Is SimpliSafe ad in poor taste?
*************************
Ken,
This is just a casual observation, but I am perplexed by the new SimpliSafe (SS) television advertising campaign. The ads depict a burglar as the SS spokesperson. In one ad, the burglar/spokesperson is sitting over a pile of stolen jewelry as well as other stolen items as he proclaims the benefits of SS.  As a past victim of burglary myself, that scene in that ad really rubbed me the wrong way. I do get the attempt at employing tongue in cheek humor in their advertising.  On the other hand, I can't help but feel that I'm not alone in thinking that these ads are offensive to crime victims and just overall are in very bad taste. I'm curious if I'm the only one thinking along these lines?

Has Political Correctness finally hit the alarm industry?  I haven’t seen the ad.  I wonder if there are other inventive ads that might cross the line.   I might lobby Scott Goldfine at SSI for a new category at the Sammy Awards – most outrageous / inventive / over the top advertisements.  We could have print, Internet, TV and radio categories.
Mark, I am curious.  You’re long time veteran of the alarm industry.  What were the circumstances of your burglary?  Home or office?  What type of alarm?  Why aren’t we suing?
On a more serious note, anyone have comment on the SimpliSafe ad or other creative ads that might cross the line?
Some of you “young” guys would probably be appalled by the pictures that alarm salesmen use to carry around of fire victims.  Another time.
