Comment on who owns central station data from Nov 12, 2013

**********************

Ken

Very simply response as relates to ‘Anon’s’ issue where a (UL) central station does not allow ‘print or download’ of account load sheets/information…

    Run!

As a fire alarm systems/fire sprinkler systems-specific service and installation firm, we have over one thousand fire systems monitoring accounts and have teamed with Grand Central Station (see below CS listings in The Alarm Exchange) for over ten years – no ‘hidden’ charges and 100% access to accounts data 24/7. This has evolved and equates to a synergetic ‘team’ relationship that has been a benefit to both firms… as it should be. With the responsibility both firms assume as relates to the protection of property and lives through the central station monitoring and subsequent communication/response that is required, without this ‘synergy’, growth and success in business development for either firm would be questionable, at best.

Comment on NYS fire code - residential smokes

****************************

Ken,

Wayne Wahrsager's answer [Nov 13, 2013] may pertain to NYC however it does not pertain to the rest of NYS.  Since NYC has over a million people, the state allows NYC to enforce there own codes.  I fully disagree with different types of smokes in one residential home.  The simple reason is because NFPA does not allow for different sounds when the fire alarm or smokes trip.  On another note UL does not marry 120v smokes with the installed low voltage FACP.

I would like to hear from others if they have run into R131.1......

Question: resetting codes

**************************

Ken,

I have already signed  up for your newsletter. Does that allow me ask questions on your forum? If so  I'm currently cleaning up accounts and having to cancel some for  non-payment. Am I obligated to reset the installers code on there systems  before settling the contracts?

Everyone is welcome to and encouraged to send it questions and comments.

Whether you have to reset or default a panel depends on laws in your jurisdiction [there are very few that address this] or your contract with the subscriber. [The Standard Forms do address this].  Generally, you can disable communication but leave the local system operational.  You don't have to reveal the code unless you've sold the system to the subscriber without reserving ownership of the software.
