Comment on eroding contract protection from November 12, 2019 article

I pick and choose my subscribers so I would just walk away, no K&K agreement, no subscriber.  That being said, my dropping out won't change a thing, there must be a united response by the alarm community, then and only then will alarm contracts survive with the big players.
And, maybe if the Insurance underwriters stepped in and said, we will not cover a loss if an approved alarm contract/agreement is not used.
Ideally both concepts in place should break the use of non-alarm contracts/agreements.  Sort of like the concept of Unions, united we stand, divided we fall.

We faced the same situation with a large old customer base with contracts from the 60's and 70's and we needed new contracts signed  Back then a handshake was all that was needed. We offered a free month of service if they returned it within 30 days and the accompanying letter with the contract sold them on the concept of no new increases on this contract.  Many called for upgrades. Many real old customers said don't worry about the free month and thanks for the great service for over 50 and 60 years.

You needed contracts in the 60s and you sure as hell need them now.  You've lasted long time in SC and it's got to be coming up to exit time.  You'll need updated contracts to get top dollar.  You've been lucky so far, now it's time to be smart too.
It’s perfectly acceptable to make some changes to the Standard Form Agreement provisions; you just need to know which provisions and how to re-word them.  Since these changes are in response to subscriber demands they are not made unilaterally or in a vacuum.  It’s best to engage counsel to handle these changes and negotiations.  The Concierge Program offers a monthly credit of $250 towards contract changes and negotiations, so the first half hour is “no charge”.  That credit pales in comparison to successfully negotiating the transaction with your subscriber.  That means preserving the deal and the protective provisions in the contract that, in the first instance provides protection against claims, and secondly, adds equity to your business by increasing the value of your contract significantly. Now would be a good time to join the Concierge Program.  Call our Program Coordinator Stacy Spector, Esq. if you have questions or visit our website to read about all the advantages and sign up.
