Register today *************************** Changing your name on contract ************************** Ken, We bought your contracts a few of years ago. We acquired another company and need to have our contracts edited to new name. Can we get master name changed on the Contracts? Charles ************************** Response ************************* You can change the name but you should be updating your contracts. You are getting started fresh with a new company name, why use an old contract form. Keep your contracts updated. With all the changes going on the contracts should be updated at least every two years. ************************* Comment on Why use standard form agreements from March 6, 2020 article ************************* Ken “standard” is a GOOD thing and is definitely used on the technical side of our industry. SOP (standard operating procedures) give technicians consistency while wiring, programming, etc. AND allows a company to maintain professionalism. UL Standards exist for a reason. Plenty more could be mentioned on this subject but from a contract perspective, I believe you hit the nail on the head!! We appreciate all you do for the industry. Thanks. Mark J. Buckley ************************ Comment on having problems with Interlogix/Kidde smokes from article on February 28 2020 ************************** Ken If these are 110 volt units, and all wired on the same circuit, using 3-conductor wire, with ground, then I suggest you (have the electrician) replace them with the Gentex smoke or heat detectors. One of the detectors on the circuit should be the model with a relay, which to my knowledge, is currently the only one U.L. Listed for connecting 110 volt units in residential remote-monitored alarm system. A Kidde rep told me a couple years ago that they had one listed, but he never produced info for me. Be careful, as almost all the cheap units have a relay, or you can purchase a relay for them, but unless they are listed for the purpose, steer clear. Ray Yauchler ***************************** Ken We too have been dealers of the Interlogix/UTC line of equipment that dates back to GE etc.(have been for 20+years). Have spoken to a number of dealers in a similar situation and they’re all frustrated and not knowing which way to turn with this bombshell dropped on the industry. Really still hard to sort out what happened here? From what I gathered apparently UTC sold the line to Carrier who decided not to continue it. The mystery part of this whole thing is that, according to my sources, the product line is still alive and well in every place else in the world except for northern America. The weird thing here is that according to one of our reputable trade magazines the InterLogix brand of equipment was 1 of 3 leading industry providers in the US(‘most widely used alarm panels: Honeywell, InterLogix, Dsc as of 2019’). Even though we standardized with the InterLogix line of alarm equipment over the years we did notice a decline in quality control of their products in the last few years. Obviously this situation leaves many dealers & end-users holding the bag that know & depend on this equipment but now finding out when something goes bad that Products and Support are not available. A lot of unanswered questions here; – Why didn’t they just sell this large entity? -Why did they not continue producing/ manufacturing for the domestic market considering they were in the top 3 in the nation? -Why are they still in business & manufacturing in the rest of the world ? Is there something else brewing behind the scenes that we as dealers are not aware of? So many unanswered questions here which I hope that others that read this might answer/shed some light on. I for one stand to lose & already lost a great deal of revenue man hours, etc. based on this whole situation. Are we as dealers/end users(& trust me there are hundreds if not thousands here) in a position to create a class- action suit? Ken, I think this would be an incredible opportunity for you. I know of at least 20- 30 dealers(& hundreds more) that would sign on for this if you wanted to take the lead. I would love to hear feedback from others in the industry & dealers that have relied on InterLogix for years through your portal here.
