I received these questions from an alarm company who just received
contracts. I think the questions, along with my answers (in bold and italic), may be of common
interest.

Kenneth,
I have just received your contracts but have a few general questions before
I send them to the printer.
Can I use a P.O. Box as a legal address? The only reason to do this is to
save reprinting expenses if the office is relocated in the future.
You can use your mailing address. However your reason concerns me. Your
contract need to be updated periodically. You should only order a one or
two year supply.
If I relocate the physical address will older contracts still be valid?
Unless you do business in a jurisdiction that requires disclosure of an
actual place of business, your mailing address is fine. You must update
your contracts periodically.
UCC financing statement when does this form need to be filed out? All sales
or just financed ones?
You can file a UCC when you believe you may not get paid and you want to
secure your position. If is not something you are going to do on a regular
basis. Check my Articles Page for articles on this topic for more details.
Notice of Cancellation, in your news letter you suggest triplicate. Is that
one copy for company and two copies left with the subscriber?
Yes
When an alteration to the contract is necessary such as the length of term
or warranty time can these be modified? In the past I would strike through
"FIVE YEARS" and write "ONE" above it and have both parties initial it.
You may make hand written changes to the form contract.
Are there any things I need to inform the document printer about?
You should not change the type size. I send the contracts in proper
required type size.
Should the back side be in dark text or can it be lighter text? If lighter
is permitted how light can it be?
It must be legible.
Is colored paper for the second and third pages permitted?
Yes. Some states require that certain paragraphs or the cancellation notice
be in different color print. Watch for that.
Whom should retain the top or original copy, the alarm company or
subscriber.
You you use carbonless paper the signatures will come through and all will
be originals. You should keep the original top contract.
Thanks again for your help. I will be looking into CCTV, Fire Inspection
and lease contract soon.
